A union trades career fair and block party is taking place Friday in Elk Grove.

The event called “Taking It to the Streets” is happening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at District 56 Aquatic Center, located at 9701 Big Horn Boulevard. The event is aimed at high school students, though anyone is welcome to attend.

People can meet union representatives and learn more about a career in construction. There are also hands-on demonstrations, giveaways, food vendors and a DJ.

The event is being organized by the Sacramento-Sierra Building and Construction Trades Council, along with the organization People Working Together, and city partners.

Kevin Brown with People Working Together and Kevin Ferreira with the trades council joined KCRA 3 on Thursday to explain more about what to expect.

There are 28 different career paths that people can choose from in the trades, Ferreira said.
