In union construction, women can expect to earn significantly more than non- union counterparts or women in more traditional careers. Specifically, women in union construction can earn 20-30% more. This advantage is primarily due to union contracts that provide fair and equal pay for all qualified workers, regardless of gender.

The most recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows: For women in a union, the weekly pay advantage is 24 percent over non- union women in the workforce. For Hispanic and Latino union workers, the weekly pay advantage is 39 percent. For African American union workers, the weekly pay advantage is 26 percent.

  • Unionized vs. Non-Unionized:
Union contracts often negotiate for higher wages and benefits, resulting in a pay advantage for all members, including women.
  • Equal Pay for Equal Work:
Union construction typically implements a system where every qualified journeyperson, regardless of gender, receives the same pay.
  • Overall Advantage:
On average, women in union construction earn a 24% weekly pay advantage compared to non-union women.
  • Opportunities for Advancement:
The construction industry’s need for skilled workers creates opportunities for women to enter and advance in the field, according to California Apprenticeship Coordinators Association.
