Formerly known as Asbestos Workers, Union Heat and Frost Insulators apply and remove thermal insulation to pipes, ducts, tanks, boilers, and other equipment requiring control of temperatures. Heat and Frost Insulators are responsible for the manufacture, fabrication, maintenance and all other aspects of heat or frost insulation. They work with fiberglass, rubber, calcium silicate and urethane.

Education prerequisitesHigh School Graduate, GED or equivalent
10 units of algebra or geometry with
passing grade
Physical requirementsApprentices must be able to perform the essential
functions of the trade. For example, apprentices lift
and carry heavy objects; wear full coveralls and safety
clothing; work in high and/or low temperature
conditions; work in confi ned spaces as well as in
surroundings of noise, dust and humidity.
Most jobs require drug testing.
